Toucan Andy

Andy's talent on the drum set has earned him the title of Seattle's Hardest Working Soca Drummer. His limitless stamina and driving rhythms are sure to get you dancing.

Andy first began playing with the Toucans in 1988. He's one of the geniuses responsible for the Toucans' incandescent rhythmic sensibilities. Andy's knack for the right phrase at the right time has won him a place in the Valhalla of steel drummers. For instance:

"Welcome, Lords and Ladies!"
"I like arts EAND crafts!"
and his classic line
"How does this song go again?"

Andy has visited Trinidad, and played in the 1989 Panorama with award-winning Phase II Steel Band. His trip to the islands left Andy with endless stories of his madcap adventures, and he managed to bring back a blistering soca tune for the Toucans, too! It's called Fire Down Below, and it's available on our album Socanut. Also featured on Socanut is the seminal Exploding The Drummer sequence, pioneered by the Toucans in their Exploding The Drummer phase.

Andy and his lovely wife Sarah have recently celebrated the birth of their first daughter, a little hellion named Amelia. Andy and the family are currently living in scenic Chehalis, tending a garden and a large koi pond, and working for the Washington State Government. Andy's "the Man"!

Andy is also learning how to fly a plane, so wave to Andy next time he buzzes your house!
