Originally conceived by American composer Leroy Anderson during the heat wave of July 1946, "Sleigh Ride" was completed as an orchestral piece in 1948. Lyrics were added in 1950 by Mitchell Parish.
It was first recorded and made famous in 1949 by Arthur Fiedler & The Boston Pops. In 1959, Anderson himself re-recorded the tune in stereo, which went on to become the best-known version.
Six decades later, "Sleigh Ride" still appears every year on ASCAP's top ten list of most-performed holiday songs.
The Toucans are happy to present their much-requested steel drum arrangement here for you, just in time for the holiday season.
Enjoy the sunny sound of The Toucans' Steel Drums and the Wintertime cheer of Leroy's Anderson's timeless tune, brought together here for the first time!
