Leo's preternatural ability and uncanny timing on the Tenor Basses make him the most dangerous Toucan band member. One moment he's sensibly performing the bassline to Una Paloma Blanca, and the next he's pounding out a wild mind-bending solo for Tomorrow Never Knows!
Toucan Leo began performing with the Toucans in 1988, and was an active member of the band until his European breakaway tour in 1997. As the Toucans' Tenor Bassist, Leo always managed to hit just the right note. Despite the cumulative effect of hundreds of Toucan performances, Leo kept a cool head on his shoulders, and could always be counted to make just the right impression.With his impeccable manners and classy etiquette, Leo was able to handle every situation with adroitness and aplomb, and other A-beginning adjectives, too. Some of Leo's talents included:
Where to park the van;
- Where to put the band;
- What songs to play next;
- How do you play these things; and
- Gig? What gig?
His favorite instrument was always the floor tom, and he appears in many photos with it. Here's one of the happy couple from the lovely Seattle Pacific University campus (right). Another of Leo's interests is appearing in historical uniform for tinted photographs. Here's a photo of Leo enjoying his hobby as described above (left).
Although Leo is now living and working outside of the Seattle area, he sometimes returns for a command performance on his first true musical love, the Tenor Basses. Keep your ears peeled for that unmistakeable "wall of wolves" soundstorm next time you hear the Toucans and Leo play together!
