Socanut was released in 1991 after a grueling recording session involving technical problems like: Signal but no Sound, Endless Drummer (a problem solved only by judicious use of a nuclear explosion), and Attack of the Sugar Babies. Few people realize that the name of the album is an anagram of the band name! This album marks the first appearance of the Toucans Super League.

Bahia Girl: A calypso from David Rudder. If you haven't heard this amazing singer/songwriter before, you're missing out! He's one of Trinidad's best musical assets, and his songs are often classic steel drum hits, too!
Brazil 156k: Carmen Miranda, anybody? Written by Ary Barroso in the 1930's, this song never fails to please. The Toucans adopted this song as the theme for their surreal legal battle with the monolithic Kellogg Company. Inspired by Terry Gilliam's movie of the same name, the Brazil motif pops up whenever the corporate paper whirlwind sweeps away another victim. Enjoy the Toucans' patented Disco Break, too!
Fire Down Below 160k: Runner-up song in the 1989 Carnaval. Our drummer played with Phase 2 Pan Groove that year, and brought this song back for us. This song features the fire-engine steel drum riff, and white-hot strumming by the Toucans' front line!
Movin' On: Written by steelband genius Boogsie Sharpe, this tune shows off the timbre of the steel drum like no other. Performed in the Torchlight Parade through Seattle's downtown a few years back, this tune always brings people to their feet.
Somebody: Another classic soca, this time by Bally. Punchy horn lines, lightning-fast melodic lines, and some great bass playing, this song's got it all!
